Welcome to Growth Spurts,
the Children’s Ministry of Calvary Chapel Tucson!
“‘Let the little children come to me and do not forbid them: for of such is the Kingdom of God.'” Mark 10:14
Letter From Pastor Fred Felix
Our Children’s Ministry is designed to minister to children from infancy to Fifth Grade in a safe and friendly environment. Our ministry is not only to the children, but also to the parents who attend service. We ask parents not to bring their children into the main service, but instead, allow us to minister to them in a way they can enjoy and understand, which will also provide you, and to those around you, a distraction free environment during the service. I am personally grateful to the Children’s Ministry teachers who taught my children, so I could attend service and receive the Word, distraction free, while they were experiencing growth spurts.
Our Children’s Ministry Program is not simple childcare, but one where we actively plant the seeds of the gospel into the lives of the children who attend. We do this through prayer, Bible study, kid’s worship, life application lessons, and scripture memorization. We use various Bible based Christian curriculum at our midweek and weekend services. We want your children to enjoy themselves while they are here, and of course we like to have fun too, so we sincerely and lovingly interact with them, play games, make crafts, and provide snacks during our time of fellowship with them. We minister during all regularly scheduled services. Please check for our availability on all this churches special events and current service times.
We have a number of miscellaneous programs throughout the year. One of these is Resurrection Celebration. Calvary Chapel Tucson reaches out to our Tucson community with this annual event during Easter, and we provide separate Children’s Ministry program at that same venue. Another program we do is Vacation Bible School (VBS), which is held each year at both the WEST and EAST Campuses during the summer. Family Fun Festivals are also held on the 4th of July and in the fall each year at one of the campuses, and a Live Nativity and various Christmas Programs occur each year in December. Check our website for the location and times of these events.
As a parent, you are welcome to sit in the classroom, with your children, to observe, assist, and participate. All our volunteers are interviewed and screened before they can begin. We provide on-going training for our volunteers and are always looking for new volunteers to assist us with sharing the gospel. Volunteers are needed for special programs and we will solicit volunteer help either on a temporary or regular basis. Ministry applications may be found online here, or in the foyer.
In order to provide a safe environment, we will have restrictions on entering our ministry area before or during the services, unless they have received an identification wrist band, which you will be issued, along with it’s own identification number when you drop off your child (or children). Your child (or children) will receive the same number on his or her wristband. We place these numbered wrist bands on parents and children as a means of identification to assure no one picks up your child except for you. We ask that you sign your children into their respective classrooms and that you are the same person who signs the child out. Your child’s respective teacher will assist you. Your identification wristband will be removed before you can leave once it has been compared with the child’s and verified to be authentic.

The Reception is a ministry dedicated to reaching the hearts of those with special needs with the heart of Christ. We desire to provide support and encouragement to families and caregivers of those with special needs in an atmosphere of love and safety.
The Reception strives to recognize and encourage individual strengths and abilities while presenting and modeling biblical truths. Using communicative devices such as Big Macks, Picture Boards and Talkers, we follow a routine of fellowship, worship, modified Bible studies, scripture memorization, prayer and praise.
All ages are WELCOME at The Reception, if you or someone you know lives with special needs, please feel free to visit our class, and be blessed.
If you have a heart to serve in this ministry please complete a Volunteer Application for assisting a teacher and a Leadership Application if you feel called to teach. If you have any questions concerning this ministry, please call Chong at 520-247-4112.
It is our prayer that we will have a Reception class at each service on both campuses. It is also our prayer to equip and train Sunday School teachers in receiving children with special needs into their own classrooms.
Then He also said to him who invited Him, “When you give a dinner or a supper, do not ask your friends, your brothers, your relatives, nor rich neighbors, lest they also invite you back, and you be repaid. But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind. Luke 14:12-13
