Baptism

We view the practice of baptism as a public renunciation of following the evils of the world and selfish desires. Also, when we are baptized, we are declaring before God, church and family our allegiance to Jesus to take our cross and follow him.

In Matthew 28 baptism is commanded by Jesus in His commission to his followers to go into all the world and proclaim the good news of His kingdom, love and salvation. Peter called people to repent and be baptized and receive the holy spirit. This practice is ultimately in obedience to Christ, as well as a symbolic identification with Christ in His death and resurrection. Baptism does not do anything for you-it is a public statement about what has already happened in you by God’s grace and salvation.

In Romans 6:1-2 Paul tells the church throughout the ages this: “Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life”. We believe water baptism is symbolic of the transformation God works in us.
